Only if u get the new Basic Economy ticket. I found out the hard way. Nothing bigger than a backpack essentially, for carry on

Wow. I usually carry a purse and my briefcase. Now, it appears, I'll have to check the briefcase or get something large enough to hold the purse and everything I need from the briefcase. Pitiful.

Just learned that the hard way. I have an empty makeup bag checked right now. Literally empty. The content of it are in my backpack. It's about 10in big and can be rolled up. Just wouldn't fit in the pocket of my backpack.

I had no idea I even booked this ticket for my return flight.

Still, the lady could have used her brain and realized I wasn't using overhead space for an empty makeup bag. frick United.

Wow.

That's totally preventable and within View of a plane full of people. They should know better.

They only allow purse or backpack now

Untrue. I have flown United weekly for the past 4 years and they do not charge for carry on baggage.

At least the bags got loaded. Last time I flew UA they forgot to load a whole cart of bags and the pilot refused to delay a few minutes to get them loaded. Pulled away from the gate knowing my bags weren't going to be in China the next day. They sent my bag to Chicago then to IAH knowing there was no way it would make my Air China connection at IAH.

Bags showed up 3 days later and UA refused to take responsibility even though their steward admitted to what had happened as we left LIT.

Haven't flown UA since.

Last week Mexican lady had three small bags (pretty much all purses) the other day and they made her leave one of them before she could board.
She went and put it in the restroom and later someone reported it and they came in before takeoff to ask her whats in the bag. She couldn't understand what they were saying
They were really small bags, that was kind of dick move to ask to get rid of one
