Comcast said Thursday it had agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion in a deal that would combine the two biggest cable companies in the United States.

If the deal is approved, the combined group will be the country's dominant provider of television channels and Internet connections, reaching roughly one in three American homes.

May not get approved. FCC has been looking at this as a monopoly for a while now.

And for these reasons, I'm not sure that it will happen. Gives them a huge control of a market.

NETFLIX STREAMING SPEED
Just for those that don't frequent the MTV board..
hooray for comcast! :triple win:
- net neutrality overturned
- building a 1.5mil sq foot office in philly (more philly based customer service reps & engineers woohoo!)
- eliminate a slightly less shitty competitor and crank up the cost of interwebz
here's to $100 xfinity internet service by 2015

Yeah, the FCC strikes down these communications mergers/acquisitions all the time.

However bad you think it is, I guarantee Comcast is worse. I won't go into the issues I had with them, but I will say that if I ever moved somewhere and had to use them again, I would sooner forgo Internet than ever do business with them.

providers/aka 'pipeline' aka comcast/uverse/verizen can elect which content to allow you access to or not.
you can get youtube at .05mb/sec or pay $5/extra a month for access to youtube at 3mb/sec
oh you want netflix? sure. you get 0.5mb/sec for that too..or add the "high speed" option for another $5/mo.
eta internet access was 'cute' for awhile until netflix showed up and now suddenly cable companies (mostly) are pissed off at the direct competition. why would they want to provide you with a great 1080p dolby 5.1 experience when they're trying to push $6 ON DEMAND movies your way?
simple solution, throttle the netflix data in favor of premium ON DEMAND traffic.
