Damn. I've had mountain lions in my neighborhood before. The paw tracks outside my bedroom window in the snow dwarfed my 160 lb Akita's tracks. We had one person in the valley behind us who had their lab snatched off their front porch by a mountain lion.

I think they'll find that this lion was sick or injured or maybe had dental problems something that made him go for the easy layup

After the attack, the runner was able to hike out to safety and drove himself to a hospital, CPW said. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening. Wildlife officers returned to the area and found the animal's body "within feet of several possessions that the victim asked the officers to look for on the trail," according to CPW.

Sounds like he dropped his sandwich and cell phone during the attack.

While I certainly appreciate the advice in the article, I have to question “talk calmly and firmly”.

You question being able to do it or the efficacy of the technique?

I would imagine it's to make sure you keep panic out of your voice. You voice is higher whenever you're nervous or scared. Panicked prey make panicked noises. It'll let the cat know you see it and that you're aren't afraid of it nor will you be easy prey.

Cougars are cats...cats are pussies. They scare off fairly easily. There's a reason why that term has been adapted to describe people that are scared.

How the hell those things called get called “mountain lions”? They look more of a cougar than a lion. A nice kill but no man can kill a real lion no matter if he came from Colorado or any other states.

The actual name for this move is called "mata leao"

which literally means - lion killer.

Did you know this or was it just a coincidence?

Wasn’t there a Roman gladiator that killed a dozen or so wild beasts with his bare hands (not at the same time of course) including an African lion?

Those creepy bastards will stalk you in the winter. I've been hiking on trails where I double back and see mountain lion tracks over mine. I would never go hiking in winter without 1 or more guns.

I always wondered what the biggest cat I could kill barehanded was. I always considered the mountain lion too large, but maybe not. My strategy definitely worked in this case for ole boy.

What’s the next step up? Panther? I’ll let that guy win this game I think....

Obviously this mountain lion didn't get a good look at this guy's knuckles before he went for the kill.

I'm guessing if you search there is a thread talking about if a human could kill a mountain lion with their bear hands. This guy was probably one on the .5% that said yes. He proved all us bitches wrong.

If the lion behaves aggressively, throw stones, branches or whatever you can get your hands on without crouching down or turning your back.

Do they have stones that aren’t on the ground?

I can't believe that anyone running a mountain trail in Colorado would be out there with out bear spray. When I went fly fishing there, always had a canister at the ready as well as my 1911 cocked and locked.

I've done it, and kept running past all the mountain lion warning signs they post. But then, I was a stupid city boy tourist. Made for a fast run though, LOL.

I guess we'll need to update the annual "Who would win? 100 men or one mountain lion?" thread.
