Has anyone ever been? Pro/cons? I'm looking for a new, family vacation spot this spring and I've liked everything I've seen so far. Is there enough to do (family of 5) for about 5days.
What's the best airport to fly in and out of? Obviously, I'd imagine we'd rent a car.

We flew in and out of Spokane. It's a short drive to CdA. The CdA resort has a great golf course famous for its floating green. The flyfishing is great about an hour out of town. We also did a bike trail up in the mountains. They took an old railroad track and converted it to a bike trail. Its all down hill and not bad at all. I highly recommend it. Most activities involve the outdoors.

I live 20 minutes from CDA. I'll write more when I'm on my desktop.

It's awesome. Wife did the Ironman there in 09. We rented a bad arse lakehouse just across the wash border on a little lake and drive 20 minutes to CDA. Played golf at CDA and circling raven Indian reservation. Some cool bars and restaurants in the CDA town.
We then made the drive to Pond orielle north and up to Banff....about a 6 hour drive. Breathtaking.

Funny you say that...my in-laws are seriously considering looking into vacation homes up there.
I believe your best bet is to fly in and out of Spokane and rent a car. Spokane is only 30 miles West. Boise is a good 6 or 7 hours South, albeit I'm sure it would be a gorgeous drive.
They have exquisite fly fishing and elk hunting in Northern Idaho.

don't worry about finding stuff to do ... just go ... if the only you do is drive around and look at the scenery, that'll be enough ...

Absolutely gorgeous area and the views from around the lake are incredible. Drove through there last summer on the way to Montana.
It's been mentioned that Spokane is 30 minutes to the west and a neat town. I have a bunch of buddies that grew up in Eastern Washington and they spend a ton of time on the lake in the summer.

We own property in Silver Valley. It's God's Country. Weird lead-damaged-brained folks, but love em. I'm honestly not crazy about CDA proper but if you're doing outdoor stuff then great.
What do you mean by "spring"? Unless you're skiing (Silver Mtn/Lookout/Schweitzer) then you're gonna be limited. Big snow year so mtns will be covered. Lake too cold to do much. May and June are wet and muddy.

They hate black people up there.
That's all I got.

Absolutely beautiful. Went about 10 years ago and want to go back soon. You can see 12 feet down in the lake with ease.

I used to travel there for work (had a plant in Post Falls). I love Coeur d'Alene. BTW...if you like Mediterranean food, you have to stop by the White House in Post Falls.
It is best to fly in and out of Spokane. It is a short drive from there, and it is beautiful country. If you do go, I'd wait till late Spring. Late April snows aren't unusual. I would recommend Summer, so you can enjoy the lake. When I was there, I remember seeing a ton of old wooden Chris Crafts.

World's largest yogurt plant opening there. 600 jobs. 30% taken by Syrian refugees. What could possibly go wrong....

Not tons to do IN cda, but endless stuff within an hour. Lake cruises are cool in town. There's a theme park north of town called silverwood you can spend a day at. It was mentioned earlier but the route of the Hiawatha bike trail just over the Montana line is really cool. It's about an hour from cda. Check out the Sierra silver mine tour in Wallace and walk around town there. The city limits pub is a neat little place with good beer and decent food. There's also a zip line there. Endless trails and national forests. should be able to see some wildlife if you go ride around.

When does the snow melt and weather warm up?
I spent 5 months (June-Oct) in Spokane/CdA area back in 2010 and would like to head back up this year. I don't have 4wd or snow tires/chains so it would be easiest to wait until winter is over.
During the July-Sept stretch was some of the best weather I've seen in the US. That whole region is beautiful, so much stuff to do outdoors. The people were great too, except over in Mullan, they were not fond of out of state folks.
OP, did you decide on going to CdA or not?
