There seems to be a notion floating around our media that people should be protected from things which are similar to negative events (such as sexual assault) which people may have experienced. I am not sure if these are arguments made from a good place but the results are pretty bad.
Even for victims of significant trauma the method of overcoming the trauma is gradual introduction of the topic and similar exposures to reassure the former victim that nothing bad happens from discussion or encounters which are similar in some way. When people mythologize and pathologize a negative experience they actually make it worse, rather than help them just go on with their lives in a normal fashion.
This has become truly ridiculous in some cases - for example law schools in which people are trying to shut down teaching rape law out of concern for people who might have been sexual assault victims. Great, now people are going to be less able to deal with the abstract topic of rape and unaware of the rape laws they would need to master to defend or prosecute the people involved in alleged victims or perpetrators.
