(CNN)The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that all Americans wear homemade face coverings in public to help stem the spread of coronavirus. But Trevon Logan, an economics professor at Ohio State University, will not be following this guidance. "We have a lot of examples of the presumed criminality of black men in general," Logan, who is black, told CNN. "And then we have the advice to go out in public in something that ... can certainly be read as being criminal or nefarious, particularly when applied to black men." Logan is not alone in his concerns. On social media and in interviews with CNN, a number of people of color — activists, academics and ordinary Americans — expressed fears that homemade masks could exacerbate racial profiling and place blacks and Latinos in danger.

IMO, It's the opposite. Since everyone is supposed to be wearing a mask, why would I assume if a black or Latino is wearing a mask that they were up to some mischief?

*SIAP, article is a few days old

And previously bad play with the Saints wasn’t the only reason I didn’t want them to re-sign him.

#dearblackpeople We are the most impacted, yet the focus of resources aren’t being invested in us. We cannot wait for a government that has NEVER prioritized us. We must look out for ourselves. Take care of you first, share resources, protect the elderly, and stay home!

quote:

This message is for my black brothers and sisters: We must survive. This pandemic is real and the damage that is left in the wake of the coronavirus is realized mostly in our communities,” he said. “Bad policy, institutional neglect and overexposure place us disproportionately in arm’s reach of the dangers of this deadly virus.

“We are the essential worker. We are the most impacted. Yet the focus of the resources aren’t being invested in us. We cannot wait for a government that has never prioritized us; we must look out for ourselves. So take care of you first, share your resources, protect the elderly and stay home as much as possible. Please stay safe, stay healthy and survive. Because whether they know it or not, the world needs us – and we need us.”

Scruffy sees more African Americans wearing masks in his community than white people.

Actual percentage-wise, doubt CNN is correct.

When going out for groceries, and a few things here and there I see more black people in gloves and something over their face than white.

Not once have I seen any person of color with a mask on and thought, "look out folks. Gang bangers abound!"

Maybe in Yankeeville, but in the south, black people started wearing gloves and masks before anybody else, as far as I can tell. Every black patient I see wears a mask and about a third of the white patients I see wear one.
