You'll notice he never actually said he was gay in that speech. It's obvious what he's talking about when he speaks about being discriminated against. He doesn't hide the fact that he's gay, but he doesn't discuss it with the press. So this "outing" is not a big deal, but I bet the journalist reached out to Tim Cook and Cook probably asked not to be named in the article, and that explains why the journalist was so awkward in responding when the host mentioned him by name

He was one of the gay magazines man of year recently. It wasn't any secret and he has talked about it before.
