Bet you complain when your insurance rates go up, don't you?

Op is a good, respectable person for not trying to milk the system. If they pay his medical bills and a new bike, that should be it.

Insurance is about indemnity. Getting you back to where you were before the incident. Too many dickwads see it as a big paycheck yet don't understand the insurance companies will not lose money. They won't stay in business long if they do. It is your neighbors and peers who will pay for the loss by rate increases.

What is visibility like for cars on these roads?

How wide are the roads in general?

So first you deride (no pun) the aged and now you are attacking the disabled. What is next, the mentally challenged? How do you think THAT will go over given what most of the admin. team faces on a daily basis?

Too far.

I RA'd.

Never mind. It's not worth it.

Op, glad you're okay. Incidents like these are why I have no issues with riding in groups of I'm on the road.

This. I've nearly taken bikers out and it has nothing to do with my driving, just round a curve and Boom! There they are!

Back roads near me are very curvy and barely wide enough for two-way car traffic; in some places you have to drive at the edge of the pavement to manage it. And yet bikers come out here in the country, especially on weekends, and often ride 2 abreast. It's dangerous.

And a peeve: Few will move over enough to let a car get past, while tractors or other slow moving vehicles almost always pull to the side at the first available spot. It's called courtesy, cyclers. The lack of it makes people hate you.

OP, glad you're okay.

If you aren't capable of doing the speed limit then you shouldn't be on the road.

Trying to move over to be "courteous" is what got him side swiped. If you see a cyclist riding halfway in the lane, it's because they want to make sure you get off Facebook and see them before you pass them.

I probably used the wrong wording with desolate back roads. What I meant to say is I try to avoid heavy traffic areas...I was on a straight away in broad daylight, regular sized road, and as close to the side of the road as I could get...

Thanks for the well wishes guys, I'm counting my blessings today..

1. Didn't say anything about the OP, just what's happening in my area.

2. Don't Facebook. Don't text. Use Bluetooth to talk on the phone.

3. A cyclist riding halfway in the lane while a car follows for miles and miles on a narrow, curvy road is not doing it so anyone will get off Facebook. They're doing it to be an arse.

Nah. They actually do it to make sure motorists see them. There are inattentive assholes and straight up dickheads on both sides but an inattentive a-hole cyclist isn't gonna get anyone killed but him or herself. Not true with a motorist.

eta: I'm saying they should move out of the way if possible once it's clear the car sees them.

Also, many times drivers are driving vehicles that are just straight up too big for many roads they'll be traveling on. An F 250 with a horse trailer might fall into that category.

I think we can definitely agree on the F250 & horse trailer, lol.

Jiggy, if you're riding in LA, there aren't many "hills and blind turns" to worry about. I will say that I will never ride River Road in BR. Thats crazy. The road is shite, there are plenty of blind turns and people generally drive like assholes. I ride the levees on the EB and WB, or the Tammany Trace, which is fantastic. Every once in a while I'll ride 22 from Springfield through Ponchatoula, but theres a shoulder all the way to Madisonville.

I rode the Tour de Cure a couple of years ago. For those that dont know, its a fairly large organized ride complete with motorcycle and cop escort. I almost got sideswiped by some redneck a-hole in a pickup truck just south of Franklinton. People can complain all they want, but a car will win 100/100 times vs a bike. Is it really that big of a deal to move your steering wheel 2 inches to the left to pass safely around someone on a bicycle?
