Interesting. These guys were once mortal enemies. They killed, maimed, and butchered each other. The hate ran deep at one time yet they were able to greet each other as Americans and comrades. There was no name calling, just mutual respect for each other and sorrow for all the losses and bloodshed. There's a lesson in that for today although I can't figure out what it is.

It's a damn shame R.E. Lee didn't heed Longstreet's advice. Vicksburg, Gettysburg, and Bragg taking a knee at Chickamauga all within 2 months was the end.

Where was this published originally? Got a link to where you found this?

This is pretty interesting and absolutely topical.

Back when I was 13 and we took a family vacation there, we hired a guide. He was about 75/80 himself and had lived in Gettysburg his whole life. He was there for the 75th reunion shown in your pictures.

He said once the cameras were put away, they beat the hell out of each other with canes and let the obscenities fly.

Impossible. Everyone knows the Confederates were Nazi demons.

Even during the war there are countless stories of soldiers crossing enemy lines to exchange coffee, food, and stories. They were all human beings, just with different views of what they were fighting for.

But...they were traitors. They hated each other.

Actually, they respected each other as brothers in arms. But in the modern SJW world, we must ignore this.

Wouldn't they be incredibly old? Like 95 on the low end to 115 on the high?

I'm surprised they found 2000 of them still alive and mobile enough to attend

Men of all ages fought in the civil war. I'm sure there were 10 or 12 year olds out there fighting. Making them around 85.

Read up on the Angel of Marye's Heights. Great story at Battle of Friedricksburg.
