Circuit City may be making a comeback with an ambitious plan to open new stores by spring.

The national retail chain closed its doors in 2009 after doing business for 60 years. Ronny Shmoel bought the rights to the company from Systemax, according to trade magazine Twice.

Now the two are planning to open retail stores equipped with touchscreen terminals, which will let customers browse through inventory. The stores will sell tablets, headphones, drones and other electronics, including the company's own brand of inexpensive computer accessories, such as USB cables.

Shmoel confirmed that the Twice story was accurate to NBC News.

The first Circuit City under the new plan would probably open in the Dallas area in the spring. Shmoel has the goal of opening 50 to 100 stores by next year. Selling goods on CircuitCity.com is also an important part of the company's plan, with Shmoel expecting that Circuit City will also sell its own brand on other retail sites.

The Circuit City prospective revival comes after the decline of another electronics retail giant, RadioShack, which closed down earlier this year.

Dying business models:

1. Big-Box retailers, specifically electronic retailers
2. Brick and mortar banks

You can be profitable in these fields in the near future, but it isn't somewhere I'd want to dump a ton of capital going forward.

Circuit City you say? Remarkably, this is a great way I can show the OT how my mind works...

Whenever I think of Circuit City I have this train of thought:

- I remember the Circuit City down in Harvey when I was really young. I remember seeing how the facade resembled a plug.

- I always remember passing Circuit City in the car on the opposite side of the road. In the median there was a deep ditch with a big culvert.

- Then I jump to an episode of Rescue 9-1-1 where there is a kid stuck in a culvert during a flood. It was eerily similar to that culvert by that Circuit City store. It was a scary episode.

Seriously. Every time someone mentions Circuit City, this is exactly what plays out in my head.

If there's a hot industry to jump into right now, it's definitely brick-and-mortar electronics retail.

So those of you that think you're smart...and lie about your IQ levels on here...

This is what a real IQ is. An unnecessary flow of involuntary memory cycle that is prompted by simple statements.

You don't have my IQ. You don't want it. It is what makes me funny...and intolerable. So, you know what? I'll keep it. And just share it a little. OK?

Good, they can get back to stalking you all over the store and charging way too much for their crap.

I'd be happier if it were Howard Brothers coming back.

I find it strange that they couldn't make it, but Best Buy is still around.

Well for one thing the employee theft was ridiculous at the Circuit City on Airline. I think it was more likely that an employee was stealing from there than not.

I remember when they built the second one (for whatever reason) they refused to hire anyone who ever associated with that store.

So, with BB failing, CC decides to make a comeback. Brilliant.

Last time I went to Radio Shack was about 8 years ago. I bought some blank CDs or something and the cashier asks for phone number and address. Screw that.
