Would someone avoid going to LSU over a school like Tulane? I've had friends who've picked another school over LSU, since they saw it as a sports based college.

Good choice, as Jindal plans to close LSU-BR and move all classes back to Pineville

I've never had any real problems with LSU, its just more of a sports based college.

Take a writing class or read some books before you start another thread. Seriously you write with the clarity of a dumb eight year old.

A little confusing wording, but if you are asking if some people would choose a college based on academics, and if guided by that reason have the audacity to choose a university other than LSU, then the answer is yes.

Higher education might not be for someone who chooses not to attend a college/university based on having a strong athletics program.

Like choosing UC-Santa Barbara over Stanford because Andrew Luck threw a few touchdowns a bunch of years ago.

I hope nobody would pass up Texas-Austin because it has a good athletics program, b/c they're good at basically everything.

Stanford had put a lot of emphasis on football lately. I wonder if they're facing this problem.

Duke has been a rather dominant basketball team going on 30 years. Are students who are concerned with academic focus avoiding it in favor of other schools?

LSU gives a student the education and resources to be successful in life. It's not like a magic wand is waved anywhere else and the students get something that they wouldn't receive at LSU.

If you're gonna flunk out at LSU, you're gonna flunk out somewhere else too. Except you're gonna pay more to flunk out in that case.

My daughter didn't want to go to LSU because of it's size, party rep, and she wanted to go to a school with a high ranking medical program. Sports teams didn't matter.

To be honest, high-school me didn't pay any attention to college rankings or anything. I had tops paying all my tuition, and I grew up loving LSU, so I went there. Looking back, I wish I would have chosen my school more carefully. My parents aren't loaded, so I probably would have needed some scholarships, but going out of state to a higher ranked school is something I wish I would have done.

In reality, I learned the same thing that I would have learned elsewhere. But you're fooling yourself if you think coming from a more well known school doesn't get employer's attention. We've got Stanford and Georgia Tech engineers working with us. Smart guys and very good workers. But there are other smart guys and good workers out there too. The big name school guys definitely get more attention their first few months at the office. Its a good springboard for your career.

Depends on the area of study, engineering LSU or Tech over Tulane.
