An abstinence-only high school in a tiny Texas town is battling a colossal chlamydia epidemic.

District officials are rethinking their approach to sex education after 20 of Crane High School’s 300 students tested positive for the sexually transmitted disease.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention called the outbreak a health issue at “epidemic proportions,” KFOR reported.

Crane Independent School District officials met Monday to discuss possible updates to the high school’s conservative sex education program.

“We do have an abstinence curriculum, and that evidently ain’t working,” superintendent Jim Rumage told the TV station. “We need to do all we can, although it’s the parents’ responsibility to educate their kids on sexual education.”

Sadly, many parents are too uptight for this.

I'm confused, what does the abstinence policy have to do with teenagers not having sex? That's like New Orleans having a no crime policy.

It's crazy that people think abstinence only sex education can work. Teenagers are going to have sex, so they need to be educated about doing it safely. If not, well, see OP.

GOOD GOD this guy sounds like a moron. No wonder he thought abstinence-only education would work.

This. The lesson to take from this is not that this school has failed, it's the parents who throw off their responsibility as parents on the school to teach their kids important life lessons that have failed.

Well to his point the kids are learning an important lesson here that abstinence would have kept them from getting the clap. The parent part, well that's a wash. If you aren't close enough with your kids to be able to discuss sex in a mature way, then you have bigger issues.

I would rather get the treatment for the clap than the test to see if you have it.
IIRC thats the cotton swap in your dick hole test. That sucks. I think the cure is a shot of penicillin.

So how do you account for the significant STD rates in a place like Sweden?
