LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX (KCBD) - A 4-year-old Lubbock girl has died after being found in a family swimming pool during a cook-out, according to her brother.

Awful story. Parents and all adults, please remember to always watch small children around any body of water.

Thats terrible. Parents probably feel they are at fault.

Good reminder to put a fence around your swimming pool if you have small children. Or better yet, don't get a pool bc they suck to take care of

Happens way too frequently.

I bet family members assumed someone else was in charge of watching the little girl. That poor family.

Looks like the little girl died 12 hours after being taken out of the pool. Very sad fact....most of the time if a child does survives a drowning that was under for a good while...they are usually are never the same and have extensive brain damage.

I've got a little girl and a little bit older son that will spend most of their summer days at the lake with the in-laws and stuff like this terrifies me. Prayers to that family.

How about just putting floaties on them if you are going to be outside near the pool and potentially busy with BBQ'ing or something.

My next door neighbors were at a 4th of July party, the dad was in the shallow end with the daughter playing with a bunch of other kids and adults. Someone looked in the deep end and the son was floating face down. He had stopped breathing, but they got the water out of his lungs and got him going again. He had on one of those swimsuits with a floating tube built in, they took it off because he was out of the water and the wet suit was making him cold.
This terrifies me now that I've got a 4 month old son and a swimming pool. I'm looking into options to keep him blocked from the pool in case he gets outside when he can walk

There's a distasteful mother's day joke here but I'm not gonna say it.

Do the baby self rescue swimming classes. Any parent with a baby and a pool should sign up for this.

at 6 months he can take swim lessons. We have him in at 7 seas off essen in BR. They flip them, dunk them, and babies intuition says to roll over to their back and just float. Its incredible to watch but its the longest 10-15 seconds of your life

Damn that's terrible.

When my kids were little and first started swimming lessons, I was glad that one of the first things they taught them was to jump in the water and then make it back to the side. It could come in very useful.

My son did his first round last year and has his phase 2 coming up in a few weeks. He just turned two, but my parents live on a lake her in Georgia and my inlaws have a pool so anytime he is close to the water he has a puddle jumper on. He has no fear of water and that scares the hell out of me sometimes.

Very easily. People have this impression that a drowning is a loud event with screaming and splashing and thrashing. In most cases with small kids, they very quietly go under water and don't come back up. All it takes is a parent "taking their eye off the ball" for a minute.

I knew they could be young, my parents had me in lessons before I could walk too. I was just wondering this weekend how old he would need to be before he would understand me teaching him to get to the side of the pool in case he ever falls in
