Ohh, you didn't know?

quote:

Dewayne Montgomery So many people in East Baton Rouge Parish have to ride the bus to get to and from work, even go to the hospital or to the grocery store. As mayor would any of the candidates who's running for the office of Mayor, would discontinue the purchase of "exotic vehicles" such as Chargers, SUV's, Challengers, for law enforcement in exchange for more affordable vehicles? There isn't a real need for those exotic vehicles given that we don't have high speed chases that requires their purchase. Also at almost $80,000 a vehicle after upgrades, I think we can find a better way to spend taxpayer money.

They would rather the police be rolling in a 150 hp chevy sonic so that they cant actually stop anyone or get to a crime scene quickly

they're sold to the city as stripped fleet vehicles with stiffer suspension, transmission coolers and the big HEMI motors. Guarantee you i they're nowhere close to $80,000

had no idea those Chargers were AWD. Pretty bad arse.

Frequent floods require at least some SUVs in your emergency response fleet.

And there are no high speed chases in EBR? Ever? So a parish with almost half a million people never has anyone run from law enforcement.

And yes, every police vehicle needs upgrades. But these aren't upgrades like spinner rims or 12" subwoofers; they are installations for back seat cages to hold criminals, lights, sirens, police radio harnesses, paint jobs, etc. These modifications take time and money and the cars aren't purchased from the dealership and dropped straight into the EBR Sheriff's Office parking lot.

Hijack...are you the one who knows a lot about servicing vehicles?

My wifes 2015 Explorer Sport (30K mi) has had an issue (4 times) where she is driving and suddenly the power steering goes out, the warning lights on the dash all flash, including the trac-control. She has to pull over to the side of the road, turn off the car and restart it. After the restart, everything is fine.

Happened again yesterday afternoon and brought it to the dealership this morning. Any ideas?

Thanks, guess a simple google would have been helpful lol

Another question, the dealship is pushing $700 worth of crap for the 30k mile checkup. Any recommendations of what actually needs to be done? They're pushing a coolant system flush & transmission flush which i think is bullshite at that mileage. Also an emmision check/cleaning or some shite.

I hate dealing with these people. I'd never let me wife walk in there on her own. She'd end up agreeing to 2k worth of nonsense.

do none of it. Antifreeze flush at any shop. Transmission fluid good to 100,000 miles.Stupid emissions clean shite isn't even possible. Probably just pour some shite in the tank. Screw the dealer. Find you a good local shop to do the work. Warranty will not be affected.

You should be handling the vehicle servicing in your household. Trying to get $700 in "maintenance" on a car with 30k miles indicates the dealership staff has zero respect for your family's understanding of automobiles.

Also, if you're not under some sort of warranty why would you be going to the dealership for simple preventive maintenance issues like coolant and transmission flushes? They charge twice as much as everyone else. Get that done at a mom 'n pop mechanic shop or even a local Jiffy Lube.

dealership cannot void warranty for work done at independent shops.

Oh I completely agree, the only reason we're at the dealer is because of the power steering issue. I used to have a guy I went to for everything that was actually reputable and well priced but he ended up closing shop. We also just moved and I haven't been able to find a local place that isn't ridiculously out priced. It's always tough to find a good shop IMO

Eh, by the time those SUV's get the scrambler pack installed, the ground clearance isn't all that great.
