I am getting the release procedure done tomorrow morning for CTS. Outpatient. I took the rest of the week off of work, and plan to ease into it next week (office work). I have had it for 15 years and it gets worse as I age (53 now). I finally got the nerve test done in December.

For those who had it, any advice on how long until you could drive?

Oh I see, you can probably "Drive" just fine after a couple of weeks. But you may need to switch hands to ensure you aren't overworking it.

NEVER,EVER let them cut on ur wrist.

At Chrysler, there were probably 1K people with Carpal Tunnel, and the ones who got pushed into surgery by their doctors, never forgot, and still have horrible pain, but now, arthritis set in.

Those that stayed away from surgery and using that hand and changed jobs in plant, felt 10000% more better. Many times it healed itself over time.

Seriously, the surgery for it, is not what they sold you.

Do the little finger exercises they teach you to do as often as they tell you to do it. Do not ignore this part

This is a crock of shite. Granted, some people want to do the surgery when it isn't needed. However, a good orthopedic surgeon can do wonders for people who really need the surgery.

I had it from using a june(?) bug sander, and grinding the fark out of liftgates(issue at the parts factory). MY wrist hurt so f'in bad, it was tear worthy every night.

They wanted me to get it cut on, i said frick no after talking to people. Got off that job, was doing another job where i could use other hand, and my hand healed.

Guys who got the surgery were always in pain, some days better than others, and arthritis set in on many of them.

Surgery is the worst option

Show me on the doll where the surgeon touched you.

It is a highly successful surgery, and well worth it for someone who has been suffering for an extended period of time.

I know plenty of ppl that have had it done and they recovered fine and never had any issues. But I do think that it has been discovered now that doctor prescribe surgery way too much for this just to get money from insurance.

It is getting to be last resort for me. I awake nightly with the pain, physical therapy and a high quality brace helped, but did not make symptoms completely subside. I got two opinions, plus the neurologist who did the testing characterized it as severe.

Thanks for the replies!

changing the behavior.
this could mean having a keyboard angle like a tent.
PT. exercises.

then, if necessary, surgery.

if you have a flat keyboard, postpone the surgery.
its a repetitive gesture syndrome. change the behaviors.

I had the surgery in my right hand in 2011 and was driving the next day with the brace...the nightly pain stopped immediately. I would be surprised if they wanted to do both hands at once. I was scheduled to do the left hand but after the right hand was fixed the left never bothered me as much so I never did it.

Each case is different. In some cases not having the release surgery risks permanent nerve damage. I have seen people at that point have the surgery, be pain free days later, fuuly released within weeks and never have trouble again. It is an extremely simple and highly effective surgery.

I have never had it but a friends mom did. Do not get both hands done at the same time. You will not be able to wipe your own arse.
