Not trying to be rude, but something isn't working. 1st/2nd level support type roles should be entry level type roles, stepping stones so to speak. When I see someone in those roles for years, I immediately think they are slackers.

If you feel you have been ignored, you will probably see the same thing elsewhere. Do some serious analysis of your performance/skills and fix the issues or you will be in the same apot in 10 years

the company is intending to hire two people as temps and after 6 months one would be made into a permanent employee and the other would be let go!

Anyone hear of this happening before?

It's called "rank and yank" an it's quite common.

Happens all the time. I wouldn’t take a temp position but that’s just me.

IT jobs are really plentiful in most area’s. My suggestion is take a class or 2 in security and networking for resume purposes. It Security is being taught at all the universities now and getting to get more competitive.

An employer that is looking for that skill set is going to grab the person that has it rather than someone who doesn’t 9/10 times.

For real though, someone mentioned it, get your resume checked. Whatever university you went likely has a free service for alumnus

Got an interview the first time I used the updated resume you're suggesting.

The problem is that my company does not typically promote from within. I cant gain the necessary experience.

Have you seen it where two temps would be competing for one permanent position?

The superior tier, fwiw.

Layer 1 support would move tickets to the networking queue I would be working on. I am not certain how my position would different from tier 1 and the recruiter didnt divulge that informaiton. However, from my understanding, I would not be configuring ports or access to switches/routers. That would be a step above me.

Where are you located? Big D as in Dallas? I am not a tech guy but I do associate with techies daily in my job. A couple thoughts are to maybe look at jobs outside of tech but that would see your knowledge as valuable. Cyber is huge and it's only going to get bigger. Also look at something like Third party risk as a way into a large corporation where you could move into other roles later.

A neighbor was in a long term tech job with a small company and laid off last year. He got a much better job for a city. I think it might be beneficial to look at different industries and not so much the specific job you want. Skills and knowledge are transferable.

The amount of federal positions open in that area is absolutely insane. Plus locality is suhweeeet. I thing January 2024 it jumps to 17.77% for rest of US area. With "1000" apps out and only a few interviews and no offers... Go see a resume advisor at the nearby uni. Do mock interviews
It won't cost that much if your school doesn't offer it for free. Something needs retooling and with that many no interview applications, it starts with the resume

Luckily you're in a decent area to make this work, I would like to help you out since I found myself in a very similar situation possibly worse but if you'd like to talk, just let me know.
