even if dukey charged the service dog...WTF do these cops expect a damn dog to do?
Dog is going to defend his humans even if they are a POS.
sorry your K-9 was such a pussy that he couldn't handle his bidness.
Screw those cops.

So why does your OP say the dog was clearly not a threat?
because thats what the title of the article says

Again, it wasn't close to them after they shot it. We don't know if it was close before they shot it.
my next question is why did they think they needed to finish it off?

I haven't read past the OP but:
She's screaming that they didn't have to shoot the dog right when the video starts. Was he putting it out of its "misery" after the first shot before the video started?

Yeah, it appears that the dog was initially shot prior to the start of the video. I doubt that they would have killed it had it sustained minor injuries b/c it was clearly incapacitated. Still sucks though

Well if it was badly wounded that might have been the right thing to do? Not sure, we certainly don't have that level of detail from the article.
It's unfortunate for the dog as it was just acting naturally. The owner needs to control its dog and prevent it from attacking in this situation if they don't want it shot.

It's not even a real country, anyway.

It's hard to say but that dog seemed pretty happy still. I'd say there is a decent chance it just needed to go to the vet.
Like i said no way of really knowing but its hard to give police the benefit of the doubt. Also, this is a completely different argument but i think its fricked up they were able to shoot it in the first place.
There has to be some non lethal methods of subduing a dog that is simply protecting it's owner.

Misleading OP is misleading.

Yea it didn't appear to be writhing in pain or anything.
Why don't dogs get tazed?

A video surfaced today on Facebook showing Canadian police dragging a man out of a home when one of the officers walks up to a black dog wagging its tail in the grass and shoots it dead.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police claimed the dog, Duke, had attacked one of their dogs.
But the video, recorded by a screaming, distraught woman, shows that did not happen in the moments before it was shot.
Well that's not true at all, at least based on the video.
In the video she's screaming at the cops saying "You didn't have to shoot my dog" well before the incident quoted above. So the dog was shot before the camera was rolling.
I'm not saying the cop should or shouldn't have shot the dog, but the video seems to have started after it was first shot.
ETA: I see many have beaten me to this punch already.

The cop walks up to the dead dog and says "I'm just checking to make sure the dog's dead".
What a cock.

The dog seemed to be sitting up to me, and dogs are pretty damn resilient. If the dog wasn't able to cause any harm to the cops and the owner didn't want them to shoot it then they shouldn't have shot it. Should have let her take it to the Vet to fix, or determine the outcome.

without question. just walking up and finishing it off was pretty fricked up.
Granted there is a slight chance the cops knew the dog was a goner and was putting it out of it's misery. But i really think that's less than 1%. They shot it because it wasnt smart enough to say "wait that's a police dog, i better not act on my instincts".
