Me and a few coworkers were going to drive there tomorrow, but I don't have a passport, can you get in with a social security card and id?

I went on a bus trip once. When at the border the officer got up and asked where we were from. Our guide said Alabama and he just said "Good enough" and got off the bus to let us through

Last time I went to Niagra Falls, I never left the country. I'm going to go with 'yes'.

I did, google says no. Two of the people trying to go said they "know" people who have gotten across without one. So wasn't sure if that was the norm or not.

When I was in Canada, same thing happened to me, but in Canada. What a mystery.

You can see the falls from either side. Canadian view is better but more commercial.

Looks like SA4LSU says you need a passport for sure. I am not sure.

Not the Canadian Side.

I went in 2007 with two forms of ID and it was a pain. I crossed by Bus once, and by rental car.

I was told twice (this will probably be the last time you can cross without a passport.)
No one in our group had them.

I think that's BS too. There is more of a culture shock driving between many states, as there is going from Ottawa from Upstate New York.

What are they gonna do, not let a US citizen back in the country?

No...they just won't let a US citizen cross without a passport.

Yes you can stay in the USA. Well maybe. Do you have a SS card or a green card? Are you legally allowed to reside in the US?

As to if you can get into Canada, you need a passport of some country to get in, possibly a visa if you're from super far away.

On a serious note, if you go to Niagara Falls on the US side, go to Goat Island. It straddles the American and Canadian falls. Was my favorite spot- better IMHO than going to Canada.

This, you'll get turned around at the Canadian border. Then have to go back to the American side and explain to the US Customs agents that you don't have a passport and promise that you're an American Citizen.

You may or may not get detained while they do a background check to verify citizenship.
