Can you afford a stay at home mom?

My wife stays home with our young ones for the time being but we both agree that this article is a steaming pile.

My wife stays home and takes care of our son every single day. She changes his diapers, feeds him, plays with him, puts him down for his nap, and comforts him when he’s upset. And that’s just the bare minimum.

Nelms further elaborates on the cost of all his wife does based on his personal research: Cleaning Service: $50-100 per visit once a week = $5,200 a year. Personal Shopper (running the errands like buying groceries and “a new pack of white undershirts”): $65 per hour at 4 hours a week = $13,5250 a year. Chef (lunch and dinner): $240 a week = $12,480 a year.
quote:
“My wife sometimes feels patronized when I ask her permission to buy something for myself. She feels like it’s my money and my name on the paycheck so I shouldn’t have to ask permission to get myself something every once in a while. The truth is, I’m ashamed of any time I’ve ever made her feel guilty or humored when she’s purchased something for herself. I’m ashamed that she has ever felt like she doesn’t have just as much right to our income as I do. The fact of the matter is that our income doesn’t even come close to covering what she does for our family.

We could afford it but we wouldn't be able to move into a bigger house like we'd like to
Eta: the quoted parts of your article make me hate the guy already

My wife is a stay at home mom. We can't afford it but we don't trust anybody else with our kids.

My wife works full time and still does this. I will buy my own undershirts. Go to work, woman.

Yup, can and do afford having my wife stay at home with my girls. Worth every penny, too.

I don't even spend 13k a year on groceries, much less just paying someone that much to do my shopping for me

all this can still be done with two working parents... clean-up, groceries and laundry on the weekends, ect.
can eat by 7:00 even with two workers.
All you are really is saving is daycare for the kids by not working, and gas/misc work expenses
And we made the decision to move my wife from fill time to part time. It added huge stability to the house. Wife gets the last kid on the bus then goes to work, and gets off in time to beat the middle schooler home from her bus.
By the time i get home from work, kids are mostly finished with their homework, and dinner is just about ready. By 7:00 we are on the couch watching TV...
Yes, financially speaking we had to tighten up our budget, but worth in for the peach and stability we now have in the house.

Let's say that we could pay the bills...and every night would be stay at home night!

he includes stuff in there that she would be doing whether she was staying at home or not. Chef? who the hell has a personal chef prepare every meal? financial assistant? PR Assistant to go to dinner? wtf is that?
by the looks of the couple I think the woman wrote it and said that the man did to make him seem more like a puss than he is.

My second-wife stayed at home with kids. But occasionally she'd go somewhere to slip and fall for some kind of income. But what this guy is describing just sounds lazy as shite.

My wife stays at home with our three small boys (2,4&5). Wouldn't have it any other way. She has the rest of her life to work but the kids are only little once.

We're in the same situation and our starter home got really small quick. She'll probably go back to work next year.

This guy obviously sits down to pee.

No. I need a wife who will work so that I can stay home.
