I refuse to fund anyone else's lifestyle and/or shitty decision making.

I wouldn't be happy if I were in your shoes. If they're so tight for money that they have to ask people for donations then they should be saving everything they can for the adoption too. Hopefully the vacation was a gift from their parents or something.

I had a similar experience with a family I know with a special needs child. They are always doing fund raisers. But, I happen to know that 99.9% of the things the child needs are covered by insurance. And the things that aren't covered are minimal.

My neighbors have a special needs kid and they both work for Chase almost 10 years and obviously have the most premium insurance they can and they still spend TONs of money on the bills associated with their child.

So I don't know either those people either have some next level insurance or their childs needs are minimal

I learned of this mexican vacation because someone they were with tagged them on facebook. The other two vacations were not found at all on facebook or instigram but I know they went by talking to him.

She's the type to post something every time she leaves the house but omitted vacations after they started the GoFundMe. This vacation only appeared because someone else tagged them. Therefore I assume she's aware of the optics.

just hope it was a gift like the others have said. It should be illegal to take donations and use it for anything other than it's original purpose.

Same, what really pisses me off is when my motorcycle friends ask me for money for a downed rider, especially the ones that ride like idiots. Oh, I'm sorry I make sure I have enough insurance to cover my arse if I go down doing something as dangerous as riding, maybe you fricks should of thought of that before you got on a bike and rode like an asshat...

I think it's extremely unlikely to be a gift knowing the people they went went. I'm not 100% sure though.

then just cut your losses and say "no i'm saving for a trip to mexico because I can't afford it" next time they ask for money.

There are probably 5-6 people I'd help out, including family, and this guy was one.

Crowd funding that offers no return or isn't for a life threatening illness should be an instant "no donate" for anyone.

It doesn't matter if they used the money for the vacation or not, I would be very upset. They are asking for money because they can't afford to do something on their own yet they can take 3 vacations? As his best friend you need to bring this behavior up and see what he says. Maybe someone paid for their vacation but that's not likely. Sounds like they are scamming people whether they intend to or not.

Yeah, it's just disappointing. He's a good friend and lives 2 time zones away. I'm debating whether to call him out on it or not. Not necessarily to "punish" them or make them feel bad but be mention how bad this looks.

Like i said earlier, I just can't imagine doing this with coworkers and other people you see regularly. "Thanks for the donation, boss, see you week after next when we get back from Mexico!"
