I am not saying it will get rid of all the drugs. It will get rid of the murder and drugs (which generate a great deal of the murders) in North BR

For gentrification to occur, people have to want to live in the city before they'll consider moving to a bad area to improve it.

Chain restaurants, movie theaters, and traffic aren't attractions.

What does North Baton Rouge have that would draw anyone who would gentrify it though?

I guess I can buy the Cricket Wireless store and turn it into a Subway.

I'm opening a day spa for rescue dogs. It will provide grooming, deep tissue massage, and detoxification drinks. I think it can really thrive in NBR.

How about we start with the area around GSRI. At least its close to LSU and other places people actually want to live and shop.

Cute 1920's bungalos
Competent road infrastructure
Close to downtown and Exxon

Why it will never happen:
Too close to Exxon
Stinks from the dump, and chem plants
Way too much crime
Doesn't offer significant advantages over other more easily gentrifiable areas

The two areas that will be gentrified instead are downtown east (bordered roughly by spanish town road, acadian, I-110, and govt) and old south Baton Rouge (bordered by govt, park, rosevelt, and the river). Those are both much "closer to the action" than NBR.

I'd rather the presidents streets gentrify first.

I'd love to live halfway between LSU and downtown.

Florida Blvd seems like another area that we could gentrify but maybe it's too close to the hood.

Yes you are right. I should've said finish gentrifying GSRI. It still has a ways to go.
