I honestly don't get it. I’ve lived in south Louisiana my whole life and have not ever once heard it pronounced this way.. why did this catch on so hard here at tigerdroppings?

Am I missing something?

I’m sure once the first two or three try-hards come at me with their witty ‘baw’ zingers, we can have an honest discussion about this crap

If TD never used this word, or ‘cringe’ in any form ever again, it would be a better place

I guess I should clarify, I know what they’re trying to say, I’ve just never heard it said that way..

It reminds me of when the tourism industry, or whoever it was, tried really hard to push that naw’lins crap that nobody that’s actually from here says

This board just parrots what they think is funny so they can feel relevant.

You just don't get it baw

More seriously -- We're poking fun at ourselves and Louisianans in general.

Everybody knows a baw. Maybe they from Da Berry. Opelousas. Ellick. Metry. But they're out there.

That’s because Bawcomville is in NELA.

It’s an affectionate acronym used in the white gay community.

BAW = beautiful and white

I’ll let the jokes fly at you like bawls on your chin from the others.

All jokes aside, my college roommate 12 years ago was from Lafayette and always said BAW, a version of hey boy, say boy, hey my boy but his deep accent come out hey baw, say baw.

I get what they’re going for, but it just doesn’t fit

Maybe because I’m from south of NOLA, and it originated in acadiana?? Is that where the disconnect lies??

I'd say you need to check these knuckles, but a bitch like you needs to check these palms.

These knuckles are verified, got a blue check mark on the Cajun Twitter and everythang

You don't get it because you're a bitch, not a baw.

You are way overthinking this.

It’s no different than all the other words/phrases that catch on here. There’s nothing to “get”.

People in small towns in south Louisiana like Acadiana parishes have been saying baw since at least the 80's. Back then is was "ma baw" as in What's up ma baw. Same parallel with Sonic, the latter was usually the meeting place and turnaround point on a Friday/Saturday night when everybody would drive around in small towns (think Dazed and Confused), and naturally Sonic became the place to check knuckles and act hot shite in front of the girls.
