BJ Thomas and Kris Kristofferson would like a word. As would John Williams.

In case you don't know who John Williams is.

quote:

John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. With a career spanning over six decades he has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, to many of the highest-grossing films of all time, including Jaws, the Star Wars series, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, the first two Home Alone films, the first two Jurassic Park films, Schindler's List, and the first three Harry Potter films.[1] Williams has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for all but three of his feature films.[2] Other notable works by Williams include theme music for the Olympic Games, NBC Sunday Night Football, "The Mission" theme used by NBC News, the television series Lost in Space and Land of the Giants.

I'm assuming this is on the OT and not music board because it's meant to be absurd. But one big song that Bob Dylan recorded and released that he didn't write (Bill Joel did) is Make You Feel My Love.
Damn I'm wrong that was written by BD but first recorded by BJ. Carry on.
Every other song ever written was by Neil Diamond, clearly.

Was there anything popular that he sung but did not write?

Don't know if you are talking about his cover being popular or the song that he covered being popular but check this list.
