I feel that is because the immigration policy. If they were to break off I'd think that changes quickly, from D vs R to more of a race thing, until the cartels take over completely.

If we could negotiate to keep San Diego and the deep water port this could work? Maybe trade them Seattle?

California needs the rest of us a lot more than we need them. We can get wine and bad acting from other places. California doesn't even know how to collect water for drinking.

It would probably cost us more to subsidize their shitty country.

Aren't these the same people that were poking fun at Texas for threatening the same thing?

My oh my how quickly the times change.

Someone tried this about 150 years ago. If I remember correctly, it didn't work out too well.

NO!!!

We want the Bay area and LA County -- or rather, the people in those places -- to leave, not the whole state

I don't like Cali, but states like Louisiana would be even shittier without their tax money.

The government has more power and money the more people it controls. This will never happen. You really think our government is willing to give up money and power?

Much better idea: let them keep the land and pay rent on it.

Californias chief industries are agriculture, tech, tourism, and the motion picture industry.

Ag is heavily subsidized. We all know too well how subsidized Hollywood is. The tech industry is huge, no doubt, but how many companies would stay in California if this happened?

What Cali doesn't have is exportable goods that other people want that can't be made elsewhere. No oil, chem, gas. The tech companies would relocate. Ag in cali would die quickly without subsidies and the federally provided water from the BOf Reclamation. And Hollywood is a bunch of whores that will go wherever they get the best deal.

So while I think the argument that Texas could survive on its own is silly, they've got a better case if for no other reason than exportable internal assets that other people would want.

East of the Sierras is a completely different California, just like the northern parts. I've got family in the Bishop area who would like to secede from the rest of California if they could. Mostly level headed, conservative minded folk up there living in a beautiful valley between the Sierras and the White Mountains. They have their share of libtards, much more per capita than Oklahoma or Texas, but not a fraction of the amount on the coast.
