If UCI is like every campus I've been on, most students don't give a shite about this tomfoolery. SGA types are regarded as tools, to the extent people think of them at all. There's a happy medium between SJW's and the 'Murica types. Most people live there and mind their own business.

California universities piss me off in general. They think they're being progressive when they're being backwards as shite. I don't remember what year it was but Ole Miss went out there to play UCLA in baseball and they made our fans stop chanting "Hotty Toddy" because it had vulgar language. I shite you not.

I believe the executive branch of the student government veto'd the motion. The American Flag is not banned.
Also, if this campus is like any where else, little to no students probably even knew this was up for a vote.
As for the people on the legislature who voted for this in the first place
. The idiots who say America's flag is representative of "imperialism" and all that other BS need to stfu. That flag also gives them the freedom to pull stunts like this. Way to shite on the very institution that is allowing you the freedom to do so.
