Should it drop significantly? Yes.

Will it? No.

Buy used.

If you buy slightly used, the owner before you just absorbed the loss due to depreciation, thus saving you $1,000's.

You're on the OT. Get a 2020 before everyone else on your block does.

If you were buying used would you do so through a dealer or private seller? Any advantage or disadvantage either way?

Private seller if you can find one.

No, of course not. People that say buy "slight used truck and save a ton" haven't purchased a new or used truck in this century and if they have, they haven't saved even $500.

OP, the 2016 is the better deal. The 2017's aren't a model change and don't offer many new features over the 16s. If you wait too long though, you'll have to take what you can get.

Its same price and sometimes cheaper to buy new 2016 than used 2016 because of dealer incentives. I don't want an older model.

Be cautious with a private seller. They aren't bound by the same laws as dealers.

Be very suspicious of a late model vehicle with low miles.

Always run the VIN though the manufacturers' dealership to see the service history.

There has been a lot of flooding in La and TX. Don't think I would risk buying a used vehicle from either state right now.

Exactly.

Old boy gets the insurance money, buys it back, cleans it up and sells it.

Two years later, it starts rusting from the inside out. That's if the BCM and various electronic components have already started failing.

Buying a slightly used one and save a bunch of money is not always the case. I was looking at a 2013 used truck with 12k miles on it in October of 2014, turns out I knew the sales guy's father. He told me point blank that I could walk next door and buy a brand new 2014 for the same price, and I did, same truck but a year newer with 14 miles on it. Wait until October/November to buy and you'll get great factory and dealer rebates. Contrary to what people here will try to tell you, used trucks are way overpriced and they rarely come off their asking price by much at all

+1

with the rebates and incentives on new trucks these days, you don't save any money buying used, it's not a good deal like it used to be
