Au contraire. DROP caps the retirement system's liability three or five years earlier. Retirement systems love DROP, employees not so much.

Honestly, not trying to be a dick but how often has your life been put into jeopardy in those 26 years as opposed to a trooper working on the road making thousands of traffic stops every year?

If employees do no love DROP, they do not have to take it. EBR does not force their employees into retirement, and forces DROP at 70.5 years of age. I do not understand your argument.

It is actually against the rules to come back from drop. Now, some people do get asked to come back. When this happens(and doesn't happen often), they no longer are in the retirement system and therefore do not pay in or get extra benefits. If they do for some reason, it is a violation against the la and is fraud. If you have proof of this, you can report it and get them in trouble.

A lot of ignorance in this thread. If I'm not mistaken, most of the OT is actually paid directly to the BRPD by the businesses/entities that need the cops or request the cops presence for security purposes. The cops then get paid back directly by BRPD from the funds paid to them by the stores, restaurants, etc that request them to work.

It actually costs the city nothing in terms of budgetary dollars on a day to day basis. Now how it impacts the retirement fund I'm not sure. Im no actuary and I've had about 8 snakebites tonight.

We all make choices Barney, but that is not a factor in the pension plan.

I've learned to not even entertain the cop haters on this board. So fricking stupid and misinformed.

Most retirement is calculated by base pay only, not including overtime. So BRPD's retirement is calculated by base pay plus overtime?

Drop people don't go anywhere. Where are they coming back from? You could retire on day 1 of drop or work 27 more years after it.

if enough overtime is available to double a salary, then they need to hire another officer

seems pretty simple to me

This kind of pension program is going to ruin it for the few pension programs remaining.

Govt employees at all levels, including cops, should have a similar retirement to private sector employees.

...or at least all goverment employees should be on the same, acutarially sound, system. A system like LSP Retirement that pays a retired employee 100% of their salary after 30 years is simply insane. I have former co-workers who retired before they were 50 who are brining in over $90K/year in retirement alone.

Most of the time, retirement is based off of your 3 highest base salary, not overtime. The reporter needs to check his facts. I have never heard of a pension that uses overtime in its formula.
