To all the LEO's out there who wonder why the public distrusts your kind and why you cant seem to garner any respect, go up to this guy next time you see him and shake his hand and thank him. He is the reason why.
While you are correct and I agree with you to some extent it's really not the case for the majority.
Through my experience I've learned that there are PLENTY more people who respect and trust LEO, than distrust (except for on the OT it seems). The people who don't trust LEO are usually the ones who are doing something wrong, and I'm not talking about inspection stickers.
Since we are on the inspection sticker topic though, I will just say this. The LEO who are likely working something petty like inspections stickers are doing so on their days off and making OT. It's hard to fault somebody for wanting to make more money, and if inspections sticker tickets is what the higher ups order for OT then so be it. I know I, for one, have never written an inspection sticker ticket and up until recently I never wrote a seat belt ticket. However, we were offered multiple hours of OT to come out and write seat belt tickets recently, so guess what I did. Your gripes should be with the higher ups who think it's necessary to spend money doing this, not really with the people out working for more cash in their pockets.
On a normal day, mostly in vehicle crashes, if I see somebody with an inspired anything I will write them for whatever violation caused the crash and then say, "Hey you need to get that inspection sticker up to date." It's bad enough that somebody has gotten in a wreck, I'm not trying to rub it in even more. However, that can all change if the person is a complete ass. Then I will find any and everything I can to write for.
