Broome releases statement following Tuesday's officer-involved shooting

As I promised upon taking office, every Baton Rouge police officer will be equipped with a body camera to protect both our police and our citizenry. The appropriation has been approved by the Metro Council and no longer will we have to wonder, should such instances occur again — which I hope and pray they do not — what actually happened. The contract with the bodycam supplier will be finalized by the end of the month and I will direct Chief Dabadie to ensure that every officer and every supervisor is instructed on bodycam use and maintenance. This is one of the steps in reforming and upgrading our police force and its personnel. I ask that all Baton Rouge citizens withhold judgement on this week’s incident until the Louisiana State Police concludes its work. We cannot look back. We will continue to move towards 21st century policing in our community. And we will look forward.

What in the world. The deceased had a murder charge dropped on a technicality, was awaiting trial for felony drug charges, in possession of a stolen firearm and exited a vehicle with the firearm pointed in the officers direction.

what a waste of money. There are officers and supervisors that work inside offices all day that never interact with citizens.
There are some that work in fleet that do nothing but put police equipment on police units.
Some in the training academy that just train officers. Some at the pistol range that deal with nothing but officers. Yet all of these officers have had cameras purchased for them that will never get used. That's just to name a few.
I hope the police chief and deputy chief wear theirs all the time and they have them turned on every time they interact with the mayor, her staff, the city council, and community "leaders". I would expect that public records requests for those videos will produce some really amazing videos

No matter what the body camera shows she will find a reason to call for the firing of the officers
What an everyday citizen will see as an Officer killing before he or she gets killed will be seen by the Mayors office as impatience, not following exact procedures or some other BS excuse as to why the Officer was out of line

The cops had body cameras in the Sterling shooting, and that made no difference, why would she think cameras would help now?
