Delgado can't run his 3rd Street bars. 1913 is bouncing checks all over town.

What an embarrassing douche to his voters. Is his umbrella caddie his boyfriend? He's nothing but a trouble maker for BR.

I live in Delgado's council district. When he was running against Smokie Bourgeois, I tried to tell this board that Delgado was a lying scum.

I caught hell on this board for saying it.

All I heard was that Smokie was only a restaurant guy who didn't know anything and Delgado was a smart, successful lawyer.

Then the lies started about Smokie all started by Delgado. For example, he started the myth that Smokie tried to ban all downtown food trucks because they competed with his restaurants. The fact was the food trucks downtown don't compete with Smokie's restaurants, neither of which are downtown.

And the most important fact refuting Delgado's lie is the food truck ordinance Smokie introduced would not have banned food trucks.

All the ordinance would have done was make the food truck owners get written permission from the property owners where they parked. Trucks would sometimes park in free customer parking lots and when a business would ask them to move because they leased the parking lot for their customers' parking, the truck operator would claim he had the property owner's permission to park there. When the police were called, they didn't know who to believe.

It was a very reasonable ordinance, IMO.

He barely beat Smokie using that food truck thing and narrowly slid by him right before the vote. He knows he won't be re-elected to metro council so now he's wasting his final moment in the local political spotlight with this mayor thing. He doesn't have a chance and he knows it. At least after this mayoral abortion, he'll kinda go away for a while... I hope so anyway.

BR will turn into Jackson

This will never happen. The fact that LSU is in BR will keep enough affluent members of society here to prevent that.

There are some real chicken littles on TD.

Delgado won some points for proposing a North BR Economic District and had Kip 86 it for the same types of political reasons. Politics makes for strange bedfellows. Who would think a BR Biz owner would be on the same side of economic political discussions as Gary Chambers.

Look what happened to Jackson MS when their voting base shifted

And the shortsighted, simpleminded citizens who fought St. George will be to blame, because a growing city of St. George would have bolstered the conservative population of the parish. Without SG, Ascension and Livingston will see that growth instead of EBR.
The impact of a Jackson, MS type voter shift will have devastatingly worse consequences on the city of BR than SG incorporation would have had.

There is a difference. Baton Rouge has LSU.

And the white flight in Jackson is the reason the city crumbled. Jackson lost its wealthy tax base.

St. George would do that overnight and bankrupt Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge is a city/parish government. Creation of St. George would have accelerated white flight from the city limits, but they (and their tax base) would have remained in the parish. Defeat of St. George will accelerate white flight from the entire parish, which will cause the same crumbling of the tax base.

Supposedly cut off from all the major distributors in town. Bounced one check for 10k to a distributor, lost their liquor license over it. Delgado used his stroke to get it back in a couple of days.

Take this FWIW. I got it from a bar owner friend who's in the know here in BR.

From another not so highly placed source, I'm hearing that they're closing early on weekends and pretty much hemorrhaging employees.

I don't think it's gonna last much longer.
