Breaking: Baton Rouge DA to recuse his office from the Sterling case

Partly due to long-term professional relationship with Officer Salamoni's mother and father.

Expected.
It'll cause that much more hell when the DOJ comes out saying no charges for a hate crime.

Reason: he has had a long working and personal relationship with at least one of the officers, I think the shooting officer.
Smart and right move.

My first reaction is this is done to avoid having to comply with the recommendations of the feds.
DA's office is saying "If you find something, then YOU prosecute it."
Possible?
ETA: personal relationship makes more sense

So if DOJ trumps up some charges the state just has to live with it?

The parents of Salamoni.

DA Hillar Moore added he'll recuse himself from the Sterling case, citing relationship with Officer Salamoni's parents.
just confirmation of what others have said above

I'm not up to speed on legal proceedings in situations like this, but I thought he already said they turned the case over to DOJ in the first press conference. Does the DOJ usually just investigate and recommend charges or no charges?

So who takes over the case? The state?
Posted on 7/11/16 at 11:43 am to magildachunks
I'm sure his office has investigated plenty of cases involving people he's had relationships with, much less they're parents. I like Hillar, just seems like passing the buck.
