They have a financial directive pushing them to reduce their unpaids/unreimbursements and cut down their Account Receivable time.

Most medical places are trying to get everything right at checkin.

Same here. I love BR clinic. Never felt that way. Like the fact that all my doctors are there, and they all have my records with the touch of a button. Mychart is great also.

You would be surprised how many deadbeats use services and then don’t pay their bills. Getting money upfront is the only way to combat those people because sending them to collections doesn’t help much to get the money owed.

Nope, been using BR clinic for years and have zero complaints. Great group of doctors in my opinion.

Me: I’m here for my 10:00 appt
Check in desk: name.... you have an unpaid balance of $29 looks at me like pay up buddy or no see Dr.
Me: my wife pays bills plus after BCBS discounts credits exist.
Check in desk: I’m sorry you have a $29 balance due.
Me: Can I see Dr if I’m homeless? Illegal immigrant.?
Check in desk: I’m sorry?
Me:I make payment CC
Check in desk: thank you. Can I see your insurance card and drivers license.
Me: sure
Check in desk: your checked in oh today’s charge is $69 May I have your card again.
Me: that’s it I’m changing from R to D and voting Bernie in MEDICARE for all . If I don’t pay will I see Dr?
Check in desk: I can’t answer that sir.

Seems petty but damnit at 60 I’ve gotten the don’t give a shite attitude. + I’ve been going to BRC for over 20 years.

This is why we need charity hospitals. Earl k long was an excellent hospital that trained physicians and helped poor people.

I really don’t see the problem with that exchange? You had an unpaid balance that they took care of then took payment for this visit?. Where is the problem? If you had problems or questions about the unpaid balance ask to speak to someone in billing, if you could not make the payment and needed to work out an agreement or plan, I am sure they would allow it and let you see the dr?

You are. BR clinic is very much about the money. They won’t take any Medicaid, which can hurt you if you take too much, but as a community service you should take some. You have to have insurance or pay out of of pocket. I know a family friend who just had to file bankruptcy and had some personal challenges. He and his wife has been seeing docs at BRC for years. They told them doctor wouldn’t see them at all bc they had a small balance and they’d need to find new doctors.
Come on, give your patients a little time to work through all this...Especially if they’ve been your patients for years. All about the money, not the patient care.

Yes, when I first started going there, that's kinda what it felt like. But I understand how hard it is for offices like that to make sure the do get paid, and you get used to it.

Plus, I never have a co-pay or anything out of pocket I have to pay at the clinic itself. I get a bill from the health and welfare office at the hall after they get it from the clinic.

You’ll be fine...just don’t get “down on your luck” or you’ll be searching for a new doctor.

You are absolutely correct. Problem is, no one else wants to step up to the plate and help out the poor other than the Lake and their clinic physicians. Then people complain that the Lake is a shithole. Well others need to step up and help take care of all these “poor” people. One hospital and their docs can’t do it alone. The Lake recognized that BR was going to have a problem once EKL closed and chose to help out. Little did they know they would be taking on way more than their share.

Problem is ... how do we define "poor", someone who can pay for medical care but would rather not to so they can have the latest smartphone, biggest 4 wd truck, loudest sound system, biggest rims, has every cable channel offered and works for "cash" cleaning houses because they are on disability for fibromyalgia???

I would say if you are having to clean houses for a living you are relatively poor. If you own that company, then that's different. Most women I know who "clean houses" don't drive trucks with big rims or have loud sound systems. They clean houses because that's the only job that works around their schedule when they have fibro "flare-ups". They don't make much money either. Even if you added up all of their "cash", it's not enough to pay for health insurance.
