I know people who have been together for 20+ years are going forward with their license, but doesn't the license still require them to get married? Either by a JOP or Licensed Minister? And if so, are they forgoing any celebration with family/friends?

Typically when a couple gets murried by the JOP, they throw a reception party later at a friends house or something.
So this 4th of July weekend should be some really good parties going down in EBR.

Metry and the West Bank give me a weird bad vibe like driving east on Florida from Cortana Mall towards Denham Springs.

The only saving grace and difference is the awesome food jernts.

I hope these fellas already have their amphetamines and amyl nitrate poppers because you won't be able to get your hands on them this weekend.

That license in Jeff Parish went to two employees of the Clerk's office BTW.

I don't feel like looking it up, but doesn't it say something like "Signed by a person authorized to perform marriages in the State of Louisiana"?

Yes, but as long as both parties reasonably believe the person is authorized to perform the marriage, the marriage is treated as if it was valid.

Doesn't change the fact that it happened there first. I just found it amusing that his argument was a gigantic fail.

Close enough. I didn't want to claim the wank and honestly didn't read the article.

Besides, Metairie has 400 bars and BR has like 7

Nah brah, around 390 of them are filled with sad, old, single men. Just gotta find the ones with chicks, and it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I don't think we'd allow faggy bars round these parts. I think there is a law where not more than three gays can be in the same place at the same time. Harry Lee was a god

The only downside is the drinks are weak and twice as expensive as New Orleans

I think you have so many days to have the wedding or the license expires or whatever.

I got married in BR recently and for some reason I feel like it was 72 hours. Maybe that was something else.

Understandable, but if I couldn't legally marry my spouse for 20 years, I'd want to celebrate the event with as many people as possible...not just be the first in line to get a license. Just me, though.

Part of the rush, at least in the past, has been due to uncertainty regarding how long the licenses would be available to homosexual couples.

The real key to the Supreme Court ruling isn't that gay marriage is now legal everywhere, it's that it can't be banned. It may seem like semantics, but with abortion the Court ruled it was constitutional, but the states can still restrict it. I'm interested to see if any states come up with a legally legitimate way to restrict homosexual marriage licenses.
