Reading more detail it looks like it is co-ed only at the pack level not the den level.

I would be cool with that. Segregated patrols, co-ed troops seems workable.

The Girl Scouts are not happy about it. They heard rumors of it months ago and wrote the Boy Scouts and asked them to back off their turf.

I guess it's really all about those cookie and popcorn revenues.

Imagine actually caring about this. Who cares if girls are allowed to join? Grow up, it's a kids group.

Which will only last a few years until they cave even further.

Girl Scouts is horrible, they teach them to sew and make cupcakes and such. They do way less camping and stuff that the Boy Scouts do. I see this as a good thing, I've raised kids in both programs and have always wished my little girl could join the Boy Scouts. We helped out a lot so she attended plenty of the activities that the Boy Scouts did and wanted to participate more. I see this as a good thing.

Today's "boy" scouts is a shell if what it once was.
I disagree completely. There are many more opportunities today in scouting than 30 years ago. High adventure camps, traveling 100's of miles to different camping destinations, etc. Just in our Cub Scout pack we camp out two-three times per year. I very rarely camped out when I was in Cub Scouts. If you want to argue that the parents are busier these days and it doesn't allow for the boys' to take advantage of all the opportunities, so be it. But, that's a different argument than you made.

quote:

Back in the day, scouting was considered a normal choice for a kid. Now it's more akin to the island of misfit toys at the north pole.
We have a mixed bag in our pack, but that's Cub Scouts. But this isn't any different than when I earned Eagle Scout at 16 in the 80's. By the time you hit high school, there are other interests. I'm glad I stuck it out all the while playing football and wrestling in high school. And, as soon as I received my Eagle that was the last meeting I attended and probably peeled out in the parking lot on the way out. Are there kids in Scouting that aren't involved in sports (I'll assume that's where you're going with this comment) that rely on scouting as their sole extracurricular activity? Sure. To cherry pick recent examples otherwise, Josh Hart and Danny Etling are Eagles scouts and D1 athletes at major universities. It can go both ways.

When I was a little kid I was in the Boy Scouts. One year we went to camp and one of the troops was a Scout Troop from Quebec. In Canada/Quebec, the troops are co-ed.

Trust me, this blew everyone's little minds.

That's right, the Cub Scouts are going to be boys and girls. The Boy Scouts will remain separated and they'll have a separate program for them.

Honestly I don't think this won't be a big deal other than it's going to allow girls to join a great program and learn some life skills. Nothing at all wrong with that.

You really think it stays that way?

The left will continue to bitch and moan the the BSA will cave just like they always do.

So instead of reforming the girl scouts, they'll just be lazy and force the Boy Scouts to accept girls. That's the American way

Although if I was a 12 year old boy I would not object

I am an Eagle Scout. My sister (no pics) is a Gold Award winner (Girl Scout equivalent of Eagle Scout). My mom was a GS troop leader for years. My dad was a Cub Scout Pack Leader but when I got to Boy Scouts his work schedule meant he could not help as much.

I know many Boy Scout leaders. I know a few girl scout leaders.

I have two daughters, both of whom have tired Girl Scouts.

I say all that as background to say this.

Girl Scouts, today, in 2017, is a goddamn disaster.

It has become completely and totally infiltrated by the SJWs. The Girl Scout program seems to be "Do whatever you want as long as you sell cookies". There is very little programming coming down. Very little training.

My daughters tried two different troops and neither one had a leader worth a damn. Plus the troops are so small, and now, you change troops every two years. They don't require a uniform. You don't even have to be in a troop to be a girl scout... you can just go to day camp one week each summer and call yourself a girl scout.

As an Eagle and as a Dad, I have a LOT of questions about how all this will work. But I can care less if the Girl Scouts are upset. They did this to themselves.

In many places it is like that. Heck Venture has been co-ed forever.
