SIAP. Checked didn't see anything.

quote:

Cranes atop the weir separating the Mississippi River from the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco began pulling long creosoted timber "needles" from the first of 350 bays at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 10), part of a plan by the Army Corps of Engineers to reduce the river's flow as it moves past New Orleans by directing part of its water into Lake Pontchartrain.

Several hundred people, including many families, trekked up River Road in Norco by car and truck -- and by foot atop the Mississippi River levee -- to watch the first timbers pulled from the weir, and the torrent of brownish water flow into the spillway.

I hope it's not bad. I know that they choose to live in a spillway but don't want to see anyone get flooded

And now this means idiots on I-10 will go 5 mph over the spillway so they can watch the water pour out from under the railroad tracks.

Yep. The electronic signs on the spillway said "dont slow down to look at the water" or something like that 4 years ago

This here has at least temporarily stoped the rise in Morganza & opening of spillway. It's not too late for New Orleans.

I watched the live feed on WDSU when they first got started and it looked like a sl kw process.

Dr. Sheldon Cooper would most definitely point out that it's engineering, not science.

I believe there are 20 needles per bay and 350 bays. I think I read that it would take about ten days to open the entire structure, so maybe ~35 per day? (I also read that although the original plan was to open all 350 bays, they may only have to open 200 - 250, due to the latest forecasts.)
