AKC

What is the purpose of this organization if you don't plan to breed or show dogs?

I truly do not know and am seeking an understanding.

I have a lot of problems with the AKC and don't agree with some of the things they do, but the main useful thing it does is set the breed standards, and register the pedigrees, so you know that purebred dog you bought is actually purebred. There are other organizations, such as the UKC, that focus more on sporting/working dogs and perform the same pedigree function.

Getting back to silver labs, there's a lot of controversy about them. When you try to breed for recessive traits like color, it's usually to the exclusion of something else. That's how genetic problems creep into a breed. There have been accusations that silver labs aren't labs at all, but lab/weimeraner crosses. I don't know that there's any conclusive proof, but the point is that it's a contentious issue.

But like I said, it's a beautiful pup.

Beautiful pup, but the AKC only recognizes, black, yellow, and chocolate labs.

I realize this, and my dog is registered with the AKC as chocolate. However, the owner and creator of the "silver" bloodline is working very hard and has been for quite sometime to have silver recognized as a color by the AKC.

Although silver isn't recognized, he is still listed as a Silver-Medal Breeder with the AKC and his dogs and others from the bloodline have gone on to win championships in both show and sporting events (retrieving, etc.).

I can promise you that isn't the case. I've seen the sire/dame that created the bloodline and neither is a Weimeraner.

The issue is really the stuck-up types that control the AKC who aren't willing to allow a new color into the group; because their black, yellow, and chocolate dogs won't be able to compete.

Also, by creating a color, you're neither exploiting nor excluding a trait; but rather using a combination of the two and finding the best.

My dog is guaranteed for it's LIFETIME against all hereditary/genetic diseases and was DNA tested and screened for hip dysplasia before I even paid a deposit.

The medication that I posted earlier on previous page appears to be working great for my dog.

You might want to consider giving her the Purina Fortiflora probiotics, it is available on Amazon or locally. My last mixed breed shelter adoption had heart worms and had to take antibiotics for 2 weeks for clean up at the end of HW treatment and it tore up her GI system, like diarrhea galore. Gave her one packet with a little plain greek yogurt each night and saw significant improvement. I have had 3 rescue Dobes, they can be awesome companions, hope yours has a healthy life.

If anyone ever gets prescribed the antibiotic Doxycycline ask for something else, 200 mg/day tore me up for precautionary Lyme treatment a few weeks ago and gave me an idea what she must have felt on that. Should have known when the nurse said "If you don't take this with food you will throw up."
