Blood donation companies, non-profit?

I've always wondered if places like United Blood Services and Lifeshare are non-profit or are they giving donors a tshirt and a cookie (stuff that is donated to them), and turning around to sell the blood to hospital for a ton of money.
Back in the 80's, there was a plasma center on Chimes St that paid their donors. Is it still there?

Is there anything medical related non-profit?
(Other than Obama-care)

Well, after I started this thread, I did google it, both companies are "non-profit", but I'm sure there are ways around that.

I used to work for a major blood donating company like you're talking about. I used to make different products and the send them out to hospitals. They make crazy money.

As are the Dallas Cowboys.
Maybe the company itself is "non-profit", therefore simply avoids paying federal taxes, but somebody is earning way more than the value of some cookies and a t shirt in selling that blood to the hospitals/patients.

"Non-Profit" only means that there are no retained profits/earnings by the organization, salaries are a expense, not a profit, and non-profits can and often do pay millions in salary to individuals officers of the organization, requiring only the approval of their board of directors to do so.

Non profit my arse. They pick up free blood and sell it for $150.00 a pint.
