Why is the justice dept and FBI involved? Did they do this over Robin Williams? This standard for hangings?

We know he was found hanging, 17 days after he was last seen. He was found 1/2 mile from the house he was staying in. His hands were not tied. He was fully clothed. The NAACP asked the FNI to get involved and the FBI is processing the crime scene.
Officials have said they are trying to determine if it is a murder or suicide, leading me to believe there is no obvious signs of either. Suicide by hanging usually involves an elevated platform, chair, etc. to jump off of or kick away. This may, or may not have been present. We do not know.
After two and a half weeks, most of the soft tissue would be decomposed. Insect activity would be responsible for a lot of this. Since he was off of the ground, we can assume there was little to no animal activity, with no bone field being created. A bone field is primarily created by rodents and other predators dragging pieces away to eat in a more private setting. My guess is that he was high enough to have negated predators.
The lack of soft tissue would make it hard, but not impossible, to tell if he had been stabbed, beaten, shot, etc. Bone damage may tell a story of a large knife or ricochet.
In short there is a lot known, but unreleased. Random killings of strangers is a small percentage of murders. Hanging death is usually suicide or very personal revenge.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but I read somewhere that he was hanging by a bed sheet. Yeah, pretty sure if it was a murder they wouldn't use a bed sheet

I had not seen that part. If true, the sheet will be processed for DNA. I have never heard of someone being murdered, by hanging, with a bed sheet. (With hands not tied also.)
I would be curious to know if the weather was cool for the last 17 days, possibly slowing decomp.

You can also climb a tree, put a rope around your neck and jump off the branch you're standing on.

Or stand on a block of ice

oooooh. Forgot about that one, Sherlock.

Climbing the tree and jumping would create a different physical trauma than a shorter drop. If that happened, forensics will tell.
I like the ice thought. The only issue with that is carrying a large block of ice a half mile into the woods. A man that motivated has a reason to live.
He also could have opened the noose out to a circular shape, then jumped into it. I kind of doubt that, at 54, he had a 39" vertical though.

In any event he got what was coming to him, suicide or not. He murdered Ms Trim for $101. I have no sympathy for him and commend him or those that took his life, (which the courts should have done back in the 80's).

Technically the last lynching happen in Jasper Texas, 480. But whatever fits the narrative you want I guess...

I was thinking "rotten person"...
Because of the time of death and elements, not the prison thing...

Missing for 17 days and nobody found him? I'm wondering if he had many friends and how hard they had been looking for him.
