Who is your favorite person to celebrate this month?

For me:
Jackie Robinson
Jesse Owens

Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, honors the achievements, rich culture and history of African Americans and recognizes the important contributions and of Black individuals in society.

The current month-long observance began in 1926 as a week-long event sponsored by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). During the 1960s, the week-long observance grew into a month-long celebration on many college campuses. Since 1976, the month of February has been officially designated as Black History Month.

Thomas Sowell, obviously.

A Louisiana-specific one is Antoine Dubuclet, Jr. He and his family form a microcosm of the American experience that spanned slavery and the Civil War.

+1

To that list I would add Booker T. Washington and Dr. Walter E. Williams. They would both likely appreciate being labelled as great, black men but would rather be thought of as great men (without the qualifier of race).

ETA: I'm most grateful for the black Americans who have made this country excel in music, arts and entertainment, cuisine, fashion, and everything else we enjoy.

Without those people the USA would suck like the UK.

Robert Smalls he was an OG. Stole a CSS ship, staffed it with slaves and sailed to the north. He became a captain and layer a senator and bought the plantation house he was born at.
