I'm looking to get my own pool cue and just wondering if the OT has any opinions. I've only used a standard 57-58" cue but being 6'5" I think a 60-61" cue would fit me better. Some research I've done points to this as well.
As far as weight goes, a 20-21oz cue seems to feel better when I play. Any thoughts on this?

I'm not as tall as you, so I prefer the standard 58". I also prefer a heavier weight, so I use a 21 oz.

I would imagine that a longer cue would work well for you.

Are you 18, wear a Monster hat, and hang out at Click's Billiards on weekends?

What's wrong with that? I'll even wear a cutoff shirt sometimes when I play. Can't be having restricted range of motion when I'm dropping more balls than freshman homecoming.

I like a 20 oz cue to shoot with. I have alot more control over the stick with it being heavier and I feel I have more control on a draw shot. I have a Lucasi LZEX50 at 20oz 58". Im 6'0" and it fits me great. You being taller would prlly benefit on shots where you really have to lean over the table to get to the cue.

I'm 6'3 and use a standard 58 inch cue. 18.5 ounces is what I feel comfortable with. What brand do you play?

I'm really just starting to play seriously. All I've done in the past is shoot a few games at the bar. I don't want anything too expensive at this point.

I always felt more in control with a longer, heavier stick. I like graphite also. I found that even without chalk a graphite shaft was much smoother across my hand.

Typically you shouldn't own your own pool cue until after your second domestic violence charge. Assuming the police have been to your house at least twice, a 20oz cue sounds about right.

How can you play with an 18.5? I feel like I always try and bring the stick thru the ball too quickly. If Im playing at a bar with public sticks I always go for the heaviest one on the rack.

You're usually better than that. I had high hopes when I saw you were most recent post.

Same here.

I'm short, so standard length is fine. I prefer a 19 oz.

I'm the same way. Also, haven't ever used a cue with a graphite shaft. What are the pros/cons?

You will have more touch with a lighter cue. I play with an 18 oz Meucci cue.

Being a bigger guy though, maybe the heavier cue will be fine. It's all personal preference. I like a heavier cue for my break cue, 21oz. I have a white diamond tip on my break cue that I like a lot. And an American Raptor on my Meucci that plays fairly well.

Buy a good one: Meucci, McDermott, Lucasi, etc.
