I am an avid hunter, but I've never understood hunting elephants. Same goes for the big cats. If I'm not going to eat it, I'm not going to shoot it.

"Hunting" and killing a elephant should not even be used in the same sentence, as it takes about the same skill as shooting a cow in a pasture.

Exactly what point are you trying to make here? If the hunters didn't see the elephants and the elephants didn't see the hunters until they were on top of them, then they certainly could have been spooked. Many animals are aggressive when spooked

I doubt the group accidentally stumbled upon this herd of elephants. They were probably trying to get close to get some photos.

Exactly why you shouldn't sneak up on elephants

How do some of you explain how the elephant populations in countries that allow hunting are higher than in places where hunting is banned?

Countries that charge big money to hunt animals probably have more incentive to protect them from being poached

The money is supposed to go to preservation causes but rarely does. Yes, they can shoot old or sick elephants or Lions but of course they want the trophy Bull Elephant and Alpha Male Lion so just like everything it has its price. Money is rarely if ever seen by villagers or preservations causes but is kept by the corrupt government officials. Money can be made by just having sight seeing tours and safari's you don't have to kill something that is just chilling grazing on some grass.

This is 100% true, having lived in Kenya I saw the corruption there, and in Tanzania where game hunting was allowed. Regulations are meaningless if you get the necessary money to the right person. Most actual wildlife management and anti-poaching activities were done by private entities. The corruption within the government was one the biggest obstacles faced in wildlife preservation, with little money collected for hunting activities ever being used for its intended purpose.

this. I enjoy shooting ducks, geese, doves and will fish for whatever you think we can catch, but I fail to see the glory, fun, pleasure, or point in shooting an exotic.
I don't condemn those who do. To each their own, but I'll never understand the point of the exotic hunt.

A lot of these big game hunters do their hunting with submachine guns. Not very sporting.

I bet you it's a tiny amount after everybody takes a cut. Probably in the 5% range.

Where are you vpeople getting this shite from? You do realize most submachine guns would be a terrible choice for hunting big game? Let's see. 40 rounds of low caliber high velocity ammo that MIGHT take down the beast or 2 or 3 rounds of high caliber low velocity ammo. Please if you don't understand the way hunting works or guns for that matter stay out of the conversation
