Maytag HE washer just went out after four years. Rusted gear box.

In the market for a new washer. Any recommendations?

Preferably under $800.

My Kenmores are still going after 18 years. Replaced a few parts on both the washer and dryer the past few years, all with skills learned from YouTube. Buy the old style dial controls and skip the electronic style.

We had Maytag washer & dryers for about 15 years. Did great. When it was time for new my wife wanted Speed Queen. She knows a lot more about washers & dryers than I and according to her they’re the walking dog now.

I bought a Speed Queen recently and I’m happy with it. Maytag’s commercial washer is what I would’ve bought if it was in stock anywhere (I thought it was a better bang for the buck).

I replaced my mother's Maytag Centennial washing machine with a Whirlpool top loader that has an agitator in it. Whirlpool brought back an older, simpler, design that is made here in America. Liked the performance so I bought another for my camp back in 2016. Model WTW4816FW2 from Lowe's

Maytag Centennial

I'm about to be replacing a Maytag Centennial that is at least 15 years old. I'm thinking about going with the Maytag Centennial commerical model. It isn't the prettiest one, but it looks/seems stout.

Dayuuuum! My old Maytag is 30+ yrs old and still kicking. They just don’t make stuff anymore like the used to.

The serviceman talked about this. Said I shouldn’t expect more than 5 years or so with any new machine.

He did say that he rarely sees any major issues with LG washers.

I have a Kenmore that's been running for 10 years. It's one of the cheaper models with no bells and whistles. For perspective on use. I had a roommate for 3 years. Then lived alone for 6 years and now my GF lives with me.

A salesman recently told me that if he didn't buy Speed Queen or the commercial Maytag, he would wash his clothes in the bathtub. He said everything else would last about 5 years. Was probably just trying to make a sale, but I wasn't going to shell out $1200 for a washer. That said, I bought a Maytag from Home Depot for just under $700.

Have Maytag Commercial Technolgy (MCT) washer and dryer. Work well but washer is loud and you have to mess with water levels to cover clothes. Auto sensing level doesn't do so.

We had the Maytag HE as well. After about three years it recently crapped out on us. Gear box problems also.

Bought a GE Commercial which is a fairly new model that is their attempt to compete with Speed Queen.

It's a basic commercial, no HE, no sensors, you choose your water level. Wife just wanted something closer to an old style washing machine. So far so good.

I usually bought Whirlpool and had good success. Since the HE washers have come out it is trickier. I like to fill the basket and not just use a little water. Also don't like the lock feature on the lid. They don't want you to see that there is no water in the tub?

I bought this model because my pop has one just like it for about 8 years and I have been using his washer alot over the past five years (Mom and Dad have dementia). I bought it about six months ago and I like it alot.
