Good recommendations on those three docs in Lafayette. But to clarify, Lasseigne is not a surgeon, he does interventional pain management (injections, radio frequency ablation, etc).

ETA: RIP Dr. Fraser Landreneau (2011), neurosurgeon in BR. One of the greats.

I wouldnt let a surgeon anywhere near my back unless I couldnt walk

Agree with all of this. There are very, very few things that spinal surgery can help with, apart from spinal cord compression. Don't waste your time and money by putting your health at risk with unnecessary surgery.

Wasteland

Are your problems due to post-operative chronic pain, or objective findings confirm that you will eventually need another spine surgery and you have lost trust in your current physician ? I travel the State (NOLA, BR, LAF, LC, S'port, Monroe, etc...) and meet with spine specialists and neurosurgeons weekly. I've conducted hundreds of consultations with most of the aforementioned names. Dr. Nanda at LSU-S is definitely world class and a brilliant neurosurgeon. I'm very impressed with Dr. Scrantz as he would be on my short list if I were in your shoes. If you need other names / suggestions in NOLA or LAF reach out to me and I'll help you any way I can.

FYI - One thing I've personally experienced when dealing with neurosurgeons, they rarely will accept new patients when knowing that they will have to do re-peat spine surgery and possibly correct work done by other surgeons. They usually refer you back to your treating physician.

Just curious if your doctor has ever suggested a Spinal Cord Stimulator implant to minimize your pain ?

If we are talking LA then it's Dr. Nanda in Shreveport. People fly in to see him from all over the world so his backlog can run out for many, many months. It took my wife 6 months to get in to see him in 2004.

If it were me and I needed relief I would go to the Texas Back Institute over in the Dallas area. Serious place on the back issues! My buddy flew in from France to get a procedure done there and feels great now. And that man was in bad shape prior to his procedure.

Dr James Andrews has a place over in Pensacola with some bad arse doctors working for him. I kind of think if pro athletes use that place it's got to be good. I live in the Mobile area and that's where everyone goes around here.

I have a buddy that has had two botched back surgeries and he can barely get around. He used two different hillbilly doctors up in Little Rock. With something as serious as back surgery I would go to Indo China if I had to but I would only want the best doing that kind of work on me.

That seems like a foolish position to take. Are you opposed to western medicine?

There's not much evidence (if any) in "Western medicine" literature that supports spine surgery as a treatment for back pain.
