Best shotgun shell for snakes?

Which shot would be the most effective at say 10 to 15 feet away? Have discovered a LOT of water moccasins in my yard and want to make sure I get em after one shot.

At 10-15 feet with a 26" barrel, you might as well use #8 low brass. Not much spread at that distance.

thats about what I was figuring. Even after I hacked down the grass in the very back, them snakes are still all around out there, and I don't need some vet bills on my dog for a snake bite. I have a 870 so I'll give it some exercise tomorrow on the slithering ones.

Just get some low brass birdshot. 8's will be fine. I've killed tons of them with 10's out of 22 pistols so a shotgun is like firing the damn New Jersey at them in comparison.
