We could possibly be moving to Ft. Worth. After preliminary research, I couldn't find any homes from the $225-325k range with any character. Should I just resign myself to the fact that I will be buying a builder quality, cookie-cutter home, or are there some good family neighborhoods with some character?

2 adults, 2 kids (9 and 4) looking for 1800-3000(ish) sqft with at least three bedrooms and a decent yard for three small dogs.

Do you work online from home? Do you have at least over half a million in savings for a house?

The housing market in DFW is booming and probably one of the worst times to buy here. We are saving money and will probably build in a couple of years.

I agree. Austin market is better at this moment.

This. Could look around Keller. More house for the money in an expanding area. But they are more cookie cutter.

Yes, in that range/ or in a bad neighborhood.

Also look at schools, to live in the city you are looking at private schools.

Supported 10,000%. Downtown and the surrounding areas are getting blasted with tons of new restaurants and nice shopping centers.

My mother and step dad moved to Fort Worth to take care of his folks almost 5 years ago and moved into Candle Ridge (southwest of downtown). Since they moved in, the house has more then doubled in value in that short amount of time.

It's a regular suburban 2,800 sq foot home....nothing special or luxury about it.

Fort Worth is a very sprawled city, which reaches into 4 counties. Do you have a specific area you are looking for? Do you have to be within the city limits? You should look into some of the surrounding communities as well. Arlington has some really nice established neighborhoods in that price range. However, real estate in the DFW market is booming, and you need to act lighting fast. The house next door to us (in west Arlington) sold on the first day. The seller said they had 4 offers within 12 hours of being officially listed.

Save and build or move to Keller, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Crowley, or White Settlement.

I'll be bookmarking this thread, we are relocating to DFW to work out of our Lewisville office. We have been looking at Keller. Good to know it's highly suggested.

For near Lewisville, I'd also consider Frisco.

I lived in Benbrook for a while. Not exactly Fort Worth but I was working at TCU and had no trouble getting to and from work.

Spouse and I lived in North Richland Hills. I worked downtown and it was a straight shot down 35. Quiet and perfect for families. I doubt it would be a blast for a younger crowd though.

That would be ideal. But I'm not big enough of an OT Baller to live in Frisco. It's a nice area though.

There are some old traditional neighborhoods in Fort Worth but they aren't cheap. For that price range you'll have to go cookie cutter. Look at Alliance/Keller area north of FW.
