Best EBR outskirt area to raise a kid (Central, Zachary, AP, LP)

What's the best area to live in for public schools, environment, crime, things to do, traffic, access to BR, etc.????
Edit: which area would be best for raising a kid(s). Trying to avoid the private school tuition of living in BR.

It all depends on where you work and what kinds of "things to do" you enjoy. Diversion Canal in St. Amant sure is a great place to raise a family if you're an avid boater and work in one of the relatively nearby plants. It's much less so if you work in downtown baton rouge and enjoy getting plastered a night clubs with your single friends. Different strokes for different folks.

Not near as good of schools as the Dutchtown area.

St. Francisville. Great schools, beautiful, historic town and you don't have to deal with Central/Zachary/AP/LP trash. You're welcome.

Either St. Francisville or the south side of Airline Hwy in AP

If you're looking to stay in EBR for some reason it would be Zachary. Otherwise I would say Dutchtown probably.
The diversion canal suggestion is a nice one IF you're an avid boat person. I'd personally reserve that area more for a camp. Regardless, the commute is still pretty long from there.

Because the public school system sucks. Currently live around LSU and would love for my kid to get accepted into the LSU Lab school but that is such a crap shoot. Given that fact I've been looking into moving to an area where the public schools are better and the work commute is feasible. Been looking at Central and Dutchtown the most. Still got a couple years before he starts real school to make a decision but have been casually looking at houses in case something pops up that blows me away.

St Franscisville if you like the country
Dutchtown if you want more of a Baton Rouge/New Orleans neighborhood type
Central- if you want old Baton Rouge
Denham Springs if you want small town Friday Night lights sports community
Zachary is well Zachary- not sure why anyone lives there

My grandparents both went to u-high. My grandfather aND uncle both won national championships at lsu. My grandfather was ranked as top 50 businessman from lsu, and I scored a 21(28 sr year) on my act in middle school. U-high wouldn't even interview me. My point is, I definitely think moving needs to be in your plans.
I know your kids not in high school, but it's all crazy hard to be accepted into.

Zachary getting worse by the day, school as well as the town.

I work with a lot of 2nd and 3rd generation Zachary residents. They tell me all the time that they don't like the "new" Zachary.

My parents have lived in Central for 40yrs. It used to be really nice, quiet, low stress. Not so much anymore, massive white flight, and traffic sucks. Have heard even the new schools are overcrowded. Unless you work in a plant, I'd stay on the south side or LP. If you could hack it I'd move to STP and put your kid in NLCS. Blast away!

That's the scary thing about moving. My kid will turn 3 this year and who knows what these communities will be like by the time he makes it to high school. This is a wide spread issue in BR right now it's either pay for private school or send your kid to a crappy public school. Moving seems to be the best option but even that's not a sure thing.
