I currently have insurance through 2 companies and was curious about what companies are the best with discounts and prices.

I have a contact in London, his name is Lloyd. He can probably make you a good deal.

I would think different companies would vary based on your situation. You should go through a broker. Companies assess risk differently.

My agent has me with Hanover. They've provided some pretty big bundling discounts.

I had State Farm for auto & Allstate for home. When we decided to bundle, we priced both and Allstate came out slightly cheaper for what we needed.

The cheapest route would probably be not to bundle at all

If you are in south Louisiana that is

Terrible advice. Ever heard of a Multi-line discount?

Unless you're eligible for USAA(which I am)...no one comes close. I dropped State Farm after 20 years once I realized all Vets were eligible for USAA.

Yes, but in Louisiana going through an independent agency for homeowners generally saves you more than any bundle discount you'd receive whether with a big name company or not

The companies offering the lowest rates in most areas of south LA for homeowners generally don't have an auto line or even a partnership with an auto company. But they are so much cheaper for the home that any discount you would receive from a bundle with another company would be inconsequential in comparison

There are some exceptions. For instance people with long standing policies with a State Farm or Allstate. That is assuming of course they didn't drop you post Katrina or raise your hurricane deductible to 5%

Had them but they quit writing new policies (something about risk of storm damage or something like that) a few years ago and ended up paying less with SafeCo (via my agent).

the 5% is a one time a year figure... whereas most Insurers have an unlimited 2 to 4 % wind and hail...... I will take a 5% Hurricane deduct and 1 % wind and hail all day long

I can assure you that many good independent companies with low rates offer a 2% calendar year deductible
