When I saw that Baton Rouge was ranked 18th, that was an immediate red flag.
But when New Orleans somehow managed 114th I knew their methodology was totally broken.

Even if you change the rankings to City Services quality, Portland OR is 19th.
Lol.

The best run ones seem to have something in common

I always say, the key to enjoying New Orleans is not to think of it as a poorly-run American city.. but to think of it as a really well-run third world city.. then it all makes sense .

and 101 Shreveport, LA.
Baton Rouge is number 5 in Long-Term Debt Outstanding per Capita.

Jackson,MS not being at the bottom of the list invalidates everything else.

I've lived in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Portland.
Louisiana is more violent-trashy and oregon is more drug-trashy

Still behind Mogadishu using those standards.

Of all the lists/rankings of cities out there......that is definitely one of them.

San Francisco sniffing the top 150 is a giant red flag.

I've lived in two of the top 15.
Boise and Durham.
Both I actually have pretty fond memories, so there's that. I've also lived in Indy and it's a fricking shithole.

BR ranks near the bottom in quality of services but high in budget per capita but I guarantee they are only using the population of the BR city proper but still accounting for the massive amount of tax revenue coming from St. George.

I had this thought a while ago. It made me think we should have more world class soccer players from Louisiana and Alabama - since they are kinda at the upper quartile of the third world more than the bottom of the first world.

what’s this?
Around 100K people that pay taxes that go into the city’s budget but don’t receive city services.

Easy and short answer. Any city with a Democrat as mayor is a shithole.

The kind of red flag that shows you didn't even read how the study was done. Most notably this part...
quote:
Using that approach, WalletHub compared the operating efficiency of 149 of the largest U.S. cities
Unless your contention is SF isn't one of the largest 149 cities in America.

Salt Lake City all the way down at 131 is bullshite. Spotlessly clean, light rail, low violent crime, highway lights were working... things you can't say about New Orleans which was 17 spots higher.
