I haven't been in years, however at one point I do remember it being a decent downtown hotel. Have they failed to keep up with the recent influx of hotel chains that are now present and have set a new standard?

Starwood de-flagged them like 5 years ago. That should explain it.

I did not realize they were a Starwood property at one point, or if I did, I certainly don't remember.

last time I stayed there was after a home football game and the place was low-budget as hell...take a stroll through the casino at 2 am on a saturday night and that is exactly the folks that you will find in the hotel.
ETA: it is really unfortunate that they turned to suck, because their proximity to river road makes them a prime place to stay after football games...

I bet the dice games bring a lot of excitement to the hotel lobby.

Yep. They were a Sheraton for a while.
Hotels will change brands a good bit but when you're dropped and don't get picked up by another, that's a bad sign.

I stayed there once and it was so awful I had to get plastered to not think about the room.

I stayed there for the LSU / Ole Miss game last year. It should've been a red flag that I was able to book two rooms the week of the game. The rooms were very very bad. Next time I'll stay at a Port Allen La Quita.
