Keith and Jacquelyn Smith danced Friday night at the American Legion on Madison Street in Baltimore, where they had brought his daughter Shavon to celebrate her 28th birthday.
Hours later, about 12:30 a.m., the 52-year-old Harford County man found himself calling 911 and rushing Jacquelyn, 54, to the emergency room. She had been stabbed by a man through their rolled-down car window after giving money to a woman panhandling in the rain in East Baltimore, he said. Jacquelyn Smith, an electrical engineer at Aberdeen Proving Ground, had her necklace and pocketbook snatched by the woman and the man, who approached under the guise of thanking her for giving the woman money, her husband said. She died two hours after they arrived at Johns Hopkins Hospital, he said. The pair ran away, but the woman paused long enough to say something, Keith Smith said.
“This girl actually said, ‘God bless you’ ” after the man stabbed Jacquelyn, he said.

That is a terrible story, but who the hell rolls down their window for a panhandler at 12:30 in the morning...in Baltimore?

So you looked at some drunk vagrants, felt you could trust them, and then felt you’d been misled when said vagrants didn’t use the money to invest in a 401k but instead purchased booze?

Dig up my old thread from the poli board about my proposal for panhandlers and this incident wouldn't exist.

There was a Reddit thread a while back, and a guy that works with a lot of homeless people for his job had this to say (paraphrasing):
Panhandlers and other guys on the side of the road, almost without exception, are either drug addicts or con artists. A good many of them are actually quite dangerous and unstable. Never give money to anyone on the street. If you care about homeless, take that crumpled up dollar and give it to a homeless shelter or a food bank, they are much better equipped to actually help the people that truly need it.

They are bad in Gainesville now because liberals decided building a homeless living area near downtown was a great idea. Forgot the name of it but it basically drew in flicks of them. Now every freaking corner in the area has some useless bum and you get asked at least 10 times a day for money if near downtown. I just stare them down hard before they come up hoping they get the don’t talk to me look. Some do..most have no concern for others so they bother me nonetheless despite the look
